Rock back Boys Like Girls released their first song in 11 years! The band's newest track "Blood and Sugar" was dropped on May 19th.

Boys Like Girls are a band from Boston, Massachusetts and released their first album Boys Like Girls in 2006, one year after being formed. While in 2016, Boys Like Girls went on tour in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their debut album, they hadn't released music together since their Crazy World album in 2012. During their break, lead vocalist Martin Johnson worked on writing and producing songs for other artists including Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Gavin DeGraw, Avril Lavigne, Flo Rida, and many more. Johnson also started a new project called The Night Game in 2016.

In 2022, the band performed for the first time together in years at the When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas, after their 2019 Australia and Asia tour plans were derailed by the pandemic.

On May 17th, the band's official Instagram account teased the release of "Blood and Sugar" with a voiceover from Martin Johnson over a variety of video clips. In the video, Johnson narrates the story of Boys Like Girls and their journey. He said, "I got an interesting relationship with my younger self... For a while, maybe around 2011, singing songs from our first album I wrote at 17 felt like reading the lackluster junior year English paper from the same podium every day. I guess at some point, the songs you wrote in that old attic apartment are no longer yours. They belong to the listener, whose life experience and memories with them become more important than what they were written about in the first place..."

In the same post, Boys Like Girls also announced that their new album will be coming out this fall!

When "Blood and Sugar" was officially released, the band made another post with the caption, "12 years is a long time, an eternity almost... in 12 years we've changed as men and the world around us has changed even more.... the fear of failure has dissipated and the identity we created as teenagers has taken on new life. everything's completely different. yet... everything's exactly the same. and exactly the way it should be."
